Project Rooftop Invincible: Viltrumite Vogue Redesign

This is my submission to the Project Rooftop Invincible:Viltrumite Vogue Contest.

I wanted to portray a more mature mature looking Mark, something that shows Invincible out in the open. I feel that eventually Invincible will get to a point where he is a hero full time, and doesn’t want to have to wear a mask anymore. Also I shortened his sleeves and removed the mask because, well, he is always getting ripped up in fights and eventually loses chunks of his uniform. I also wanted to try and give him a Viltrumite feel with the over all outline of the uniform and the tunic. He may hate his people now and probably forever, but at the same time he is part Viltrumite. So in a way I wanted to show that Mark is acknowledging that part of his heritage.

This is my Invincible, let me know what you think!

Well here I am…

…Sitting here  at POPCON 2011 at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Wood Center..Im just loving it! I have my table set up, my prints out and I am ready. This is the second year that I’ve had a table this event and let me tell you, it has definitely grown quite a bit since last year. more people in costume, more vendors, gamers  in general. I love just having people come up to the table and look at my work, talk to em a lil bit, get a story. They may not buy anything, but honestly I’m ok with that. I get my name out there a little bit, and talk getting to hang out. It may not be quite like the Emerald City or San Diego Comic Con’s, but its Fairbanks’ own comic con, POPCON. I’ll be sad when it ends , but first let the fun begin!

If you’re in Fairbanks and have not much going on, stop on by the Wood Center and say hello!

Annie!

A few months ago, Gwen Brazier, who is a good friend of mine, came to me with a proposition. She was going to be directing the new FLOT (Fairbanks Light Opera and Theatre) production of Annie this October. Because she wanted to stay true to the original comic strip, she came to me asking if I would be willing to design the backdrop and flats for the set. Well, one thing led to another and I found myself (with an awesome crew of people) painting 15 flats, which were back to back and a 23×50 ft backdrop. It took 2 weeks (after 5 o’clock usually till midnite or 1 in the morning) everynight up until the wednesday before the show. I have to say, they actually came out pretty awesome. The show’s opened this past weekend to nearly full attendance and let me tell you, it was awesome! I highly recommend anyone who is in Fairbanks needs to see this show. The last show’s will be from the 28th to the 30; Fri @ 7pm, Sat @ 2 and 7pm, and Sun @ 4pm. Check out my Facebook page to see all the process pictures. After the last show I will taking final pictures of all the flats and the back drop and they will be posted. ENJOY!

Fives Long Boards- Guest Artist Edition

So a lot has happened in the last few months, but I wont have a chance to bore you with all that at the moment. What I CAN do is show you the most recent finished project that I have had the pleasure of working on. I was asked by the Mr. Tyler Franke, Co-Owner and producer of Fives Longboards, to use my creative magics and design a piece of art for one of their boards. I have to say it was probably one of the most fun projects I have ever done and when given the change, I plan on doing another. But without further or due, The unveiling of my latest creation!

The Bra Show!

So this past friday, Chartreuse, The S Salon and the Alaska House held The Bra Art Show! The work that was displayed was in a variety of mediums and canvas’, primarily with works being created on bra’s themselves. Their was also the option of creating works using other surfaces, but the subject matter had to involve breasts. The result for all three shows gave way to a plethora of exciting and eye catching pieces ranging from spray painted bra’s, bra’s made from completely organic materials, (One actually had headlights haha!), and paintings and illustrations of women baring their beauty. My fiance and I stopped by all three and let me tell you it was an awesome event. People were packing the walls to take a look at these pieces. The point of the show was to raise breast cancer awareness and receive proceeds for the breast cancer detection center. I submitted an illustration for the show, this is a awesomely noteworthy cause and will probably be doing it again next year as well. If you haven’t had a chance to go and check it out, the show’s will be up the entire month of May. ENJOY!

The Musings of an Untidy Mind

Happy April Fools weekend!

So this past Friday was the opening of my new show at Chartreuse; “The Musings of an Untidy Mind”. It was an amazing opening! We had a lot of people turn out for the event and a lot of great feedback. Thanks to the folks at River City Cafe who catered the event, their was a lot of great food and amazingly their was more than enough to last most of the night. And thanks to Sherri, the owner of Chartreuse for giving me the opportunity to show my work at her venue. Also, thanks to T and Gran for putting up with all the crazy of the night that was the event. This was my second solo show that I’ve done since college and let me tell you, I loved it. I’m not a huge show person, but I love the feeling that I get when I show my work off and people actually enjoy it. Thanks to all those that bought work from me, at the end of the month I’ll be taking the orders to the shop and getting them printed. And also for those that loved the pen and inks, i’m playing with the idea of making smaller prints of those. I’d love to hear some feed back on this if I should seriously do it. The show will be up for the rest of the month, from tues thru sat at Chartruese, so if you missed the opening, just go on by and check it out!

ENJOY!

Update about the Hamster! wait….I mean the show!

so….on my show card it states that the opening will be from 5 to 8…..its actually going to go from 5 TO 9. That’s what the wonderful people over at Chartreuse have informed me of and I’m cool with that. Unfortunately because I work a job that requires me to be up at 3 am, staying up until 9-10 o’clock has become increasingly difficult. SO if you happen to stop by later in the nite, I will be one of a few things:

a) I will be exhausted and passed out in the corner snoring so loud the cops get called because of a noise violation.

b) I will be exhausted and snap at everyone and everything and bite people’s head’s off due to the fact that all I have on the brain is my head hitting that luxurious pillow….or…

c) I will be so giddy and random and insane due to the fact that I am so exhausted that I will act like a crazy psycho, just so I can stay awake.

So there you go, come on by after 8 o’clock and be on guard….because you’re not gonna know who your gonna see *wink*

Again remember be at:

Chartreuse April 1st, 2011 ( I know how is it that I get the luck of having my show opening on april 1st?)  from 5 to 9 PM

I think we found the Hamster!…. and a show title!!

This is the latest and greatest piece for my upcoming show….which is in like three weeks. I was talking to my fiance, who by the way is such an amazing woman and I dont know what I would do without her, and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to call this new piece. With that beautiful quick mind of hers, she just started laughing and spouted, “I think we found the hamster!” we both started laughing pretty hard and for as ridiculous as that title sounds, it fits the piece pretty well. Whats better is that she has pretty much come up with all the names for my pieces and even my show! I come up with something and she just have to one up me every time ( and lemme tell ya, in this case she wins). Late last week we sat down at the kitchen table eating dinner and I looked to her and said that I had no idea what I wanted to call my show, not in the slightest. Without even breaking a sweat she just says, ” how about ‘The Musings of an Untidy Mind’?” I just busted out laughing because if anyone knows me, that title pretty much sums up how I am. It’s such a great title and also a great starting point for me because this is the first show that I have had outside of being a student in almost two years. Sure, I’ve had pieces in shows around town and that’s all well and good, but this is the first time in a while that I’ve done something for myself. A lot of my work in the last couple of years has been commissions or just quick sketches, nothing of substance. BUT, and I mean a very big but, these last two years have not been wasted. I have been playing with different mediums and styles, studying for myself and trying to become an artist that I feel I can be. Sure making art at the U was nice and I loved the space, but in a lot of ways it was kind of restricting. As my friend Brianna put it, once she graduated, she felt a giant weight lift off her shoulders and that she had the freedom to be who she wanted to be. This is the first of many things to come for me, it may not necessarily be a new art show every few months, but I have a few other projects in the works, one is a comic I’ve been working on the last 2 years that i’ve been a jerk to my partner on because I want it to be the best it can be. So Keith, I’m sorry buddy, but your gonna love the final. and also expect to see some possible published pieces from me in the year, my new years resolution was that I am going to be published by the end of the year, and Gosh Darn It, it’s going to happen!! …..so….with out further or due, here is the newest piece for my show and the show card that was created out of that piece!

ENJOY!
